CAPEtees are for everyone!

The response we've received from everyone over our CAPEtees has been awesome! So awesome, in fact, that we ended up going beyond our original scope of little boys and girls and expanding the products we offered. A lot of adults would hear the idea and get excited about it, saying they wanted CAPEtees too. So we offered them to moms and dads (and bridal parties too!).

Then we got the cutest idea ever when a friend requested a baby onesie just like the regular CAPEtees – I mean, what's cuter than a superhero baby? The idea was finalized when I was at a show and the requests just kept pouring in for baby one pieces - including personalized and monogrammed ones. That got me thinking about including them as a staple product. The onesies with capes were just a natural extension. After all, if you get a CAPEtee for your little one, and you also have a baby, then you'll want one for both kids! It’s perfect for family portraits!

We had to reinvent the cape a little, but we got it right with securely attached vinyl (that isn't going to come off for anything!). In addition to being safe, vinyl is also easy to clean and unobtrusive. Check out this cute little superhero from one of our latest shoots!

We’re also coming out with a new line of summer and tropical themed onesies to match the season! I won’t give everything away, but I will give you a hint - your baby will be styling with preppy, fun designs and prints of something you use in summer when the sun’s shining bright! So keep your eyes peeled; we’ll announce something as soon as we get the first designs made.

Pinterest: Leap of Faith Clothing Contest

Recently, I read this article (entitled A Marketer’s Guide to Pinterest) about how to use Pinterest as a marketer.

If you haven’t heard of Pinterest, it is a virtual cork board of sorts. It reminds me of when I started to put together my office space; the first thing on my list was to have a vision board on the wall...made out of cork! It took me a while to find the perfect cork tiles and pull all the perfect magazine images, quotes,  home pictures, homemade drawings, and other inspirational pieces, but once I completed it, I loved the liveliness that it added to my space.

Pinterest is the same way!  It adds a dimension of liveliness to the social media that inspires me.  I knew starting out there had to be a way Pinterest could help Leap of Faith Clothing.  I also knew there were going to be "power users" that would start making money on Pinterest.  Of course, I aspire to be one of them, but I soon figured out it would take a lot of time on my part.

Even though it’ll add the amount of time you spend on social networks and online marketing, that’s not to say it should be overlooked in favor of other social media sites! According to David Wallace in A Marketer’s Guide to Pinterest, Pinterest is the fastest site to hit 10 million users.  I think this is partially because of the exclusivity of being invited, which adds to the appeal of becoming a "pinner."  Good call, Pinterest innovators! Another plus is that Pinterest is driving search traffic - more than Youtube, Google+, and Linkedin.  Even if Facebook, StumbleUpon and Twitter are still ahead, I’d say it’s a pretty big feat to gain that social media ground over two of the biggest search engines in the world.  Above all, I think the most appealing part of this article is the demographics statistics; Pinterest is hitting my target market head on!

Now, my challenge is to somehow encourage my followers to re-pin my Leap of Faith items. Therefore, we are going to start a contest. So any users who currently have re-pinned or start to re-pin the Leap of Faith Clothing styles will be entered in a contest to win a free t-shirt of their choice and 30% off any other items they choose to buy.  I hope to build awareness and excitement around the Leap of Faith Clothing brand and also reach more of my target market on Pinterest!  Happy Pinning!

LOF GeGer's Style!

Ahh..the joys of owning an adopted pet!  Last week was quite an adventure for my little GeGe!  To really understand you must know that this all started about a year ago when I took a huge LEAP OF FAITH and decided to take in a little girl pug who needed a home.  She weighed 10 pounds, had very little fur left, was scared timid and down right ugly!!! So ugly and pitiful that she was cute.  My heart broke and Gentry (affectionately nicknamed GeGe, GeGers, G and so on!) was brought into my house.  I knew she was going to have some health problems and was prepared I thought!  But what she has continued to go through the last 14 months is pretty unbelievable.  The positives are that she took the LEAP with me and now weighs 19 pounds, has regained most of her fur, is so aggressive about getting loving that she will headbutt you until you pet her and she is still down right so ugly that she is cute.    The negatives are that we are still dealing with her skin condition.  Last week she started breaking out in hives!  Her fur was going a million different directions and she was whimpering because it itched her so bad.  I have to say that I have never been happier that I am working from home.  I was able to get her to the vet and had a steroid and benedryl shot in her so fast that she started calming down in 10 mins!  I would like to say I was calm during this whole process...but as most of you CAPEcuties know...I can not lie!  I was a babbling idiot...I was hysterical...I was scared that I may lose her after only one year.

I have thought about this so much since it happened, because it is a direct metephor for the way I feel about my business right now.  It is small, underweight, and in pieces!  While this is how I am sure every infant business comes together...this is this CAPEcreator's first time ever taking this LEAP!!!  The natural instincts I have with G I also have with my business!  I know what I need to do to get all the CAPEcuties out there jumping and using their imaginations!  My lesson here is to not become that babbling idiot, to stay true to the course and the process.  Much like the vet did when we walked in!

The FANTASTIC new is that I am finalizing art for the TEES this week and I could not be more excited about what I have accomplished!  I am in the final process of costing and figuring out logistics.  The next step is to prepare mentally for sewing 1200 capes and 4800 pieces of Velcro!  Not to mention learning how to embroidery, setting up a photo shoot, preparing for trade shows, figure out quickbooks, linking up an ECOMM site, as well as maintain a heavy schedule of networking!!!  Ahh..I now see why most people let someone else do all of this!!  Not this CAPEcreator!!  I will be strong like GeGe and I know that one day soon I will be a heavy weight, who may still have some lingering problems, but the love and determination to not to let my CAPE go slack!

PS.  I will be offering Pet tees with capes!!  Can you imagine a super pug??  Haha!!

Crossing T's and Dotting I's

Crossing Ts and Dotting Is...

My LEAP is about to land!!!  I can only hope and pray at this point that I land on my feet!  The last couple weeks have been consumed with cutting out 1008 capes in 7 different colors! Now sewing on all the velcro! This week brings the excitement of getting my tees at the end of the week. And next week brings the excitement of a photo shoot and my first sales!! Not going to lie...can food is getting old :)

I am beyond blessed to have so much support in my life...so blessed.  The outreach and support that I have been given is beyond anything I could have hoped for and a special side effect of starting a small company!  There are too many to thank...but the one steady I have to shout out is CAPEKory!  My main man!  Kory has masterfully learned how to create an amazing website for me!  It looks better than I ever imagined and has set me off on the right foot! I am so pleased..and I just want to say if you ever need a website designer...he rocks!!

Another wonderful side effect of this leap...is the new culmination of the Queen Bees of Charlotte!!  I am so pleased to be part of this new all female networking group.  We had our first monthly Bee Hive event and it was more than I could have ever hoped for!  I was humbled and amazed by the women who came. I truly think that we are all so strong and even in this time of unrest...we are coming together to network!  We are supporting each other, either in business, love, charity, and just life in general!  I think we know that God was smiling on us and agreeing that we were in the right place...when our generous benefactor picked up our incredibly large tab!  What a blessing and surprise:)

So to end I just want to say that I am having the time of my life!!!  I have loved every minute of building Leap of Faith!  Win or Lose...I am proud of what I have accomplished!  I am so excited for the next few weeks and seeing where I can really take this business.  So hold on with me and lets continue to LEAP!!!
