Taking the LEAP!!
Sometimes life hands you lemons....
Almost a 3 years ago....my Mom said the words, "I have breast cancer..." At that moment I had no idea how profoundly those 4 words would affect my family and I. Map (AKA Pam:) started the process like most cancer patients, research, Dr. appointments, endless testing, and surgery. The warrior that my Mother became was inspiring, bold and not going to let this small speed bump get in her way. I watched her with admiration, thinking I am so lucky to have this woman as a role model. The process of changing my life was amplified by this event! I decided that all the things I wanted to do "eventually" should not wait any longer.
After a process of personality testing, researching, soul searching, and praying, it was clear to me that I was good at taking risks, but not taking any. I had an entrepreneurial spirit, a extroverted personality, and a creative drive that was not being nurtured in the work I was doing. Out of that Leap of Faith Clothing was born. I chose the name Leap of Faith, after hearing a song from Eric Bibb, called The Cape. He says in this song...
"He's one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith Spread your arms and hold your breath And always trust your cape"
Appropriately enough Map was the one who heard this song and sent it to me!! The name felt right for so many reasons. Leaving a comfortable corporate job to start a clothing company in this challenged economy sounded crazy to me and most everyone I talked to! Ultimately I knew that the time was right and I had to take this leap while I could. I am beyond amazed at the abundance of support that I have received and continue to receive. I can not say enough how humbled I am by everyone in my life that has been so supportive, encouraging and helpful! The transformation that has happened in the last 5 months is one that I will always look back on.
I would be remissed not to mention a few people who have been a huge part of this process! I have to start by thanking someone who has been my rock through this whole process! Kory Hodge is the most amazing friend and designer I have ever had the pleasure of knowing! He is scary smart, and creative beyond words. My logo and website are a product Kory. The website has been a labor of love and I think he and I are both impressed with how much we have learned!
I also need to thank Brett, my sister, for her honesty and feedback. She has a great eye and instinct and knows how to get through to me. I am so thankful to have her in my life.
Next is Barry, my dad! His encouragement and support are what made me feel comfortable to take this chance. The fact that I had his expertise to help me make business decisions was pivotal in getting LOF up and running so fast!
Lastly I have to thank my Map! Thank you for helping me to see that life is not always what we plan for ourselves. That it is short and precious. I am so grateful that I was able to realize this and wake up each day knowing that I am going to live it to the fullest. I am so proud and honored that I have you as a Mom. You are beautiful, strong, and brave. I hope that I can live my life with as much zeal and zest as you have. PS. You are a much better sewer than me!
With all that said I am proud and humbled to introduce you all to Leap of Faith clothing!!! I am just getting started creatively...so please bare with me as I work out all the kinks!!
